On Wednesday I made a post about menstrual type cramps... For anyone wondering, yes low dull cramping just might
be contractions, mine was. But, I didn't really think so... I was waiting for something much stronger to say that I was in
labor. They went on most of the day. I came home a bit early because I thought I just needed to nap for a while. Woke
up around 6 and they were still there except I was then also getting sharper pains every 15 minutes but still really low
in my pelvis. At about 7 when Dh came home I was finally wondering if I needed to call my midwife. We decided around
8 that it wouldn't hurt to call, she thought it was probably nothing but that we might want to do a fetal stress test so we
met her at the hospital at 9. At 9:30 we were registered and in the door, the midwife ran a swab and I looked about 2
cm dilated. 10 minutes later she checked my dilation with her fingers and I was measuring 7cm. Up until this moment I
had no idea I was going to have my baby. The midwife estimates that I was in active labor for about 2 1/2 hours with a
1/2 hour of pushing, no time to any drugs even if I had wanted them, and my little boy Eli Covell entered the world at
12:05 am on June 2nd.
There were a ton of doctors in the room because we thought the little guy might be just over 32 weeks. But it turns out
that like I had suspected for a while he was older than that. The pediatrician estimates about 35 weeks. So, his lungs
were working and much to my relief he came out screaming.
Eli is a beautiful little 5lb 1oz baby. He spent a day or so in the intermediate nursery (where babies that need a bit of
help but aren't critical are sent) with some increased oxygen, but has been weaned off of that at this point. He is a bit
jaundiced so he's spending some time under the photo therapy lights, but he's strong, feeding, and doing really well.
We hope that he's able to come home very soon. I may not be on for a while because I'm running back and forth
between home and Children's Hospital for feedings, but I'm thinking of all of you and will post pictures when I get a
chance.

I was due July second, but my little guy couldn't wait that long. I had a dr. appt on Thursday at 11am. After he checked
me I started having little contractions that lasted all day. Finally at about 8pm we decided to head to the hospital since
my contractions were coming every 5 minutes and getting very painful. When I got there I was only at a 2 so I walked
for about an hour. AFter that I started to contract harder and stronger, and started dilating about a centimeter an hour.
I had an epidural with my last baby, and I really wanted to go without one this time. I used a birthing ball a lot which was
really great, and I really recommend it. Finally about 5am I was at a 7 and they broke my water. After that my
contractions got so strong I didn't think I was going to be able to do it. But with a lot of support and screaming I finally
made it to a 10 and at 7:05am I pushed out my beautiful boy. He swallowed a ton of blood on his way out, so he had to
have a tube stuck down his throat twice to pull it out, and his lungs were really congested for a while, so that was a bit
scary, but after five minutes his apgar was a 9.
He weighed 7lbs 2oz, and was 19.5 inches long. He has some dark hair, but not near as much as his brother had when
he was born. He is the most beautiful thing, and I am so in love. His name is Tayson Robert, and he is doing great.
I was wondering if they were off on my dates, but they said he looks like he is a couple weeks early, so that makes me
glad he came when he did. Another pound or so and I might not have been able to do it! I am so happy that I did it
naturally though, and I am feeling really good today. So that's it, I will try and post a picture of him tonight or tomorrow.

Well, I went in at 8AM for the induction. I was already at 4 cm and 100% effaced! They broke my water and started the
pitocin. At around 11:00 we got a scare, They had uped the pitocin and baby was not taking to it, his hb went from 138
down to 70 bpm and there was like 6 nurses in there, I got so scared they had to put me on oxygen and then they had
to stop my contractions and they waited until his hb got back to normal. They started me back on the pitocin but slowly.
The contractions were getting awful for me so I got the epidural around noon. OMG I should have asked for it once I
got in there! I was at 6 cm from noon until 6:30! I didn't think I would ever get to a 10. Well, my contractions started
getting closer, and then I started having back labor, awful awful back pain, that the epidural does not cover! So I got
some other medicine for the back pain and the nurse checked me around 6:55, and I was at a 10!!!! I started pushing
and he came into this world at 7:07PM!!! He is so georgous!! Has a head of hair. and is 6lbs 15oz. 19inches long.
For 1st time moms this wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The one thing I couldn't stand was the Blood Pressure
cuff they had to keep on me that kept taking my pressure every 30 minutes, it was way too tight! I complained more
about that than anything.
One thing that I wish I had done differently was prepare more for breastfeeding. I just read up on it and didn't take any
classes or anything. It took awhile for him to latch on, takes alot of patience, which I was. He's now latching on really
well.

Name: Chesnee Nicole

Born: June 15, 2005

My babies were born on June 15th. While I was in the hospital to have my blood pressure monitered my Dr. ordered a
biophysical profile of the babies and when both their amniotic fluid levels were on the low side he made the decision to
go ahead and deliver them. There are tons of minor details but I'll just tell the most important things. Chesnee came
into the world at 3:59 PM screaming VERY loudly and her brother, Seth, followed exactly a minute later. She weighed 5
lbs. 10 oz. and he weighed in at 4 lbs. 8 oz. It is a well known fact that girls lungs mature faster than boys so while she
was able to go straight to the newborn nursery, unfortunately Seth had to go to NICU. At first he was breathing okay in
the oxygen tent but the next morning they came and told us they would need to put him on the C Pap. Well Friday
night Karl and I were visiting with him and one of his lungs collapsed. It was horrible and the worst thing I have ever
experienced thus far in my life. They rushed us off and came over to tell us about an hour later that they had put him
on the ventilator and put a chest tube in. Then the next morning his other lung collapsed so in went another chest
tube. I am happy to say that yesterday they were able to take the tubes out, take him off the ventilator and put him on
the nasal canula. He is still breathing fast at times but is down to only requiring 25% oxygen. He is wanting to eat bad
so if he remains stabilized just a little longer, we will be able to start going in and holding him and doing his feedings.
As for Chesnee, she is doing great. She came home with me on Sunday and aside from sometimes being too lazy to
take her bottle, she is the perfect baby!

My Birth Story:
5:30 AM: We woke up nervous as anything. We left Justin and Alex home to tend to the dogs and we dropped
Amber-Rae off at my moms.
8:00 AM: We got to the hospital in which I had blood drawn, was hooked up to the monitors and had my IV started. We
waited for the doctor to come.
9:30 AM: My doctor walks in and checked me. I was having contractions and I was already dilated to 3-4cm. I told him
that I felt fine and maybe we should do this another day...
9:45 AM: He proceeded to break my water and told me that I wasnt going anywhere now...LOL
10:30 AM: They started me on potocin in which I started having more contractions...I am happy to report that they didnt
hurt at all...All I felt was my belly getting tight for each one. One contraction even peaked over 100. The doctor
checked me again and I was at 5cm so he upped the potocin...Again more contractions but no pain..Whooo Hooo I
really thought it was going to be easy. The nurse couldnt believe that I wasnt in any pain nor could the doctor. Every
time they came to check up on my they would say WOW I CANT BELIEVE YOUR STILL SMILING...LOL...I told them that
I get ugly when its time to push so watch out...LOL.Almost
2:00 PM: I was laying on my side and decided that maybe I should just close my eyes for a while since I wasnt in pain
and I knew that pushing was going to require all my energy. So I closed my eyes but not for long...About 5 minutes
after that I felt this PAIN like I just got kicked in my lower area. It made me open my eyes wide and I looked at my dh
and said OH MY THAT HURT...and then I got a contraction and it started to hurt...My first painful contraction. The
doctor came in and said I think the babys head just dropped...I guess he could tell by the monitors outside the
room....He then checked me and told me I was at 8 cm...WHOLY COW..It was now 2:03 PM!!!!
2:03 PM: The doctor decided to up my potocin one more time before leaving he asked me if I wanted any pain
medication and I said NO....About 10 minutes after that the nurse came in and had to lower the potocin because the
babys heartbeat was dropping with the contractions...She said it could be the baby coming down. She asked if I
wanted any pain medication and this time I looked at Raymond and was like Maybe I should....It just strated to hurt so
bad. It felt like my insides were ripping open. I looked at the nurse and said yes maybe I should...I was thinking it was
going to get worse. She said she had to ask the doctor because I was already at 8 cm and it might be too late for the
medication.
2:15 PM Maybe.....She wanted to check me while I was getting a contraction to see if I would dilate to 10 when the
contractions came and if I pushed down...So the contraction came and I pushed down...She said OK stop pushing let
me call the doctor..The baby is right there...The doctor came in and started to get ready...He told me not to push yet
while he got ready. I looked at him while I was getting a contraction and told him with a smile on my face THAT HE
BETTER HURRY UP AND GET READY...LOL...He was amazed that I could still joke...LOL..
PUSHING TIME:..With the next contraction I pushed...OH MY GOODNESS...IT HURT LIKE CRAZY. I just kept pushing
down and screaming..OH MY GOD THIS HURTS but never stopped pushing knowing that I needed to get her out. As
the contraction was over he looked at me and told me that I could stop pushing because the contraction was
over..Then another one came and I pushed again...I felt like I was pushing for ever but I final heard the baby's head is
out and I still kept pushing...They had a bit of trouble getting her shoulders out but once that came out....
2:29 PM: MY BABY GIRL WAS HERE!!!!!!!!! As I was laying on the table and the doctor was holding the baby they
asked Raymond if he wanted to cut the cord...He did and the minute he cut the baby reached for the cord that was still
inside me and wouldnt let go...LOL...See, she wasnt ready. She wanted to go back in...LOL
She also has tons of dark hair and blue eyes...She is absolutely beautiful.
While in the hospital:
Baby Alyssa
- They kept an eye on her sugar levels and EVERYTHING is WONDERFUL. They also did a sono of her
kidneys and they are just fine...She is a healthy baby girl and is nursing wonderfully.
Me- They had to give me some medication to control my bleeding only because I have a history of hemorrhaging after
or not being able to control the bleeding. I had to take 6 doses! The following day after delivery my heartbeat went
really low...It was 40 beats per minute...It stayed like that the entire day. They had an EKG done but my heart didnt
have any irregularity to it so they werent to concerned but kept coming in to check my heartbeat. Before I left my
heartbeat was 60 beats per minute so it was climbing back up and the cardiologist came in to talk to me...He told me
that if my ankles swell or I get some heart palpitations or more tired then usually or feel faint to call. There is this rare
condition called Maternal Heart...something...which could cause heart failure but he highly doubts thats what it is.
I also wanted to add that the nurses were awesome and wonderful. I felt like I was royalty there. We were put in a
regular room but I was the only one there which was really nice. Raymond stayed until 2:00 AM and then I asked the
nurse if he could stay. She said she wished he could but someone was supposed to share the room with me and she
already told them not to put anyone in my room but if they really had to that she would feel bad that he would have to
leave...So he left but the next day I got my PRIVATE room and not only did Raymond stay the night but Amber-Rae
stayed too. It was really nice. The nurse felt so bad for making Raymond leave the first night that she actually sent me
home with TONS of EXTRA STUFF and even gave Amber-Rae a baby bag with baby stuff in it.
We are happy to be home and the kids adore her!!!!!!!

Hi all. Just wanted to post quickly and let you know that my baby is here!! I'll give you the short story now and hopefully
post more later.
My water broke prematurely last Wed. They kept me in the hospital and gave me antibiotics and streroids. I went into
labor on Saturday and by early Sunday morning I was ready to push. Unfortunately, baby had been head down the
whole time but decided to turn breech at the last minute! I had an emergency c-section and baby was born at 3:24 am
Sunday. He was 33wk2d, 3lb15.5oz, 16.5inches.
I was released from the hospital on Wed. Baby is still in the NICU but doing well. He has been breathing on his own the
entire time and now he is eating from a bottle.

Not that I post a lot here but thought I'd all let you know our little girl arrived on 6/25/05 exactly 37 weeks. She weighed
in at 6 lbs 4 oz and 19 inches. We are struggling with feeding right now so we are in every other day for weight checks
and she is up to 5 lbs 13.5 oz today so we are getting back up there. It is so different having such a little baby, she just
seems so fragile. Everything else is perfect. I ended up pushing only 4 times which compared to the 4 hours with the
first one, it was just so awesome. I was up walking around right away also much unlike the first delivery where I could
barely walk for the first 2 weeks!

hospital got there and was 3 1/2 cm dialated... they checked me half hour later and I was 5 1/2.. within 15 minutes I
was 10 cms and had to start pushing! I was too far along for an epiduarl but the DR was in teh room and I was crying
so he went against the nurse and gave it to me anyway (she was pi$$ed!!) love that doctor. Didnt feel a thing after the
shot.. ending up in labor for 3 hours!! which shocked the nurses and had a 1st degree tear with 2 stiches. But it was all
worth it... Cameron is amazing I love him to death!!

Ok so, I was going about my usual business on 21st June out and about with DH doign last minute things and all of a
sudden at 10am getting in the car I realize something wet on my behind and thought it MIGHT be my water then I
thought NAH!!! its too early and it might be all the mucous I was complaining of last couple of weeks thinning out. So I
didnt go to L&D. The whole day I spent with DH watched 2 movies (batman & then Mr & Mrs Smith) was having
cramping still didnt realize what contractions felt like so sat through them thinking this is nothing. We stayed out late,
went to the mall walked TONS!! ate at a restaurant then got home at 10pm thats late for someone as pregnant as me
staying out.
Then on 22nd I was still leaking fluid, and told my mother in law (this is where experience helps) and she said ITS MY
WATER FOR SURE and I should go to L&D, I said I was waiting for the intense contractions that I thought u get after ur
water breaks, she said no it doesnt always happen that way. ANyway I had my regular check up and my doctor took
one internal look at me and sent me on my way to L&D and said todays the day.
I got there at 4pm, there were no rooms available so I had to wait for about 1 1/2.
They checked me over at the hospital and said I was about 3cms dilated but that they were going to admit me because
of the water breaking and they didnt think it would take too long for me to get to 10cms at the rate I was going. Good
thing I had everything packed in the car already like hospital bag and stuff, I knew it was going to be crazy like this so I
kept everything in the car from a week ago cuz you never know when anythings going to happen.
I got one of the good rooms, single!! YAY! for me with a shower and stuff and it was much bigger than the one that is
used when these ones arent available. They hooked me up to the IV monitor baby was doing great with her heartbeat
and she was still hiccupping away, you could hear it on the monitor (aww bless). By now I was having regular
contractions 3 minutes apart and they were starting to get really painful but I still insisted to the doctors that I wouldnt
need an epi and they kept saying I was doing the best out of all the ladies in the delivery tonight, but then at around
9.30 the pain was getting unbearable and I called the doc in to get my epidural ready for me NOWWWWW! and asked
how much longer she thought I would be b4 I could push and I was told about 20-30 mins!!!!!! and she said by the time
they got it ready and it went through my system it would be too late and my baby would be born, so I beared the pain
but come 30 mins later still no baby and still no urge to push...................another senior doc came in to check my
status and she examined me inside and said that NO!! I still have some unbroken water inside me and the other doc
must not have got her hand in far enough to realize that I wasnt as close to delivering as they thought
hehehe.............because I heard some stories from other women that this is common. Anyway I didnt POOH! the doc
said this was contractions and because of the epi I couldnt tell but they told me when I feel this urge then to
push................so I pushed for about 40 minutes (not continuously of course) and at last baby Zara came into the world
at 12.29am 23rd June weighing 6lb and was 21 inches long. She was sooo cute, and DH cut the cord, he was chuffed,
he got his baby daughter he always wanted and everyone says she looks the spitting image of me.
I would have had a better birth expereince if the doctors hadnt miscalculated me on the on delivery times and checked
me properly grrrrrrr........I could have had my epidural muchn sooner and not go through that pain.

Weight: 7 lbs 5 oz
Length: 19 inches
Time: 4:38 PM

Hannah Lynn Costa arrived yesterday June 27th at 4:38 pm. Weighing in at 7lbs 5oz 19 inches long. She's soo tiny!!
And of coruse GORGEOUS!!! It was a very fast labor once labor got going.Well as you all know I went into be induced
w/cervical pills on Sunday night. We got there got hooked up, the Dr did a sono and said she was measuring 8.08
lbs...lol funny!
At 8:50 he checked my cervix, said I was still only a fingertip dilated, my cervix was still up pretty high, and 30%
effaced. He administered the first dose, he used Prostin Gel afterall.
I had to lay on my side and still for an hour, that was soo hard, because I pee all the time!!
Anyhoo, the nurse came in and checked me 4 hours later, and said I was a wiggley 1cm dilated and my cervix was still
long and thick, so she was going to call the Dr. She came back and gave me a 2nd dose of gel and a shot of morphine
to help me sleep. I sent Ronnie home to get some sleep since we were soo far off from delivery. I didnt sleep much, I
was VERY relaxed from the morphine but just couldnt fall asleep. At 2:15 I heard a baby be born, I cried...
AT 6:00 am Monday, hubby came back, and the nurse checked me again, I was still not quite a 2 yet so she called the
Dr and he said to give me another dose of the gel. He showed up at 8:00 am on monday, checked me I was 2 cm's at
that point. He wanted me to get up and walk around, then at 10:00 he wanted the nurse to start me on Pitocin. And
then he would be back at 12:00 noon.
10:15 came and I was on pitocin, never to get up again!!!
I was having mild contractions the whole time at this point, nothing major not painful but not close enough or long
enough. My Dr came back at 1:00 checked me I was at a 3 and decided to break my water. OH MY GOD!! That HURT
SOO BAD, I cried!! He also inserted internal monitors at that point too.
Now my contractions started in pretty heavily. About 1/2 hour later the anesthesiologist came in and talked to me about
the epidural, she said she would be back at 2 when the nurse came in to check me. At 2 the nurse came in checked
me, my contractions were sooo BAD!!!! I went from 3-5 in 1 hour, she called the anesthisilogist in, I got my epidural,
immediate relief. The nurse checked me again, I was a 7. She called my Dr.
At 4:20 my sister finally showed up, I could feel pressure down there, I thought for sure i pooped!! lol. But the nurse
said no, its the baby's head. Hannah even pushed out the internal monitor...lol. I was at 9 cm's and the Dr was walking
in, I started pushing just after 4:30 and she was born at 4:38.
The nurse had me touch her head when she was still in me, it was sooo cool~
I didnt have any tearing, no episiotomy, nothing. I'm not even sore down there at all, just swollen.
Thats it! She's perfect. And we came home the next afternoon.

On June 27th I had a dr appt because of suspected pre-eclampsia. When I got there I was SO swollen in my face and
hands and I was seeing spots, so I was pretty sure that they would induce. My bp was 190/110!!! Of course I had a
few things that I wanted to do before I went to the hospital, so I ran some errands and took my time. I think I had a last
minute panic attack.  They started the pitocin at 8:00pm, but they weren't too concerned because I wasn't dilated at
all. I certainly surprised them when I went from 0-6 in 2 hours! The epidural was the hardest part for me. I had such an
awful experience the first time that I was really nervous and the anesthesiologist kept yelling at me to sit still. I was
doing the best that I could. I am a terrible patient. He threatened to leave if I wouldn't calm down and the nurse started
yelling back at him. Very entertaining. Anyway... long story short, after the epi I had some scary moments with low
blood pressure and terrible shaking for 2 hours (!) but it really wasn't that bad. I started pushing at 2:00am and he
arrived at 2:27am weighing 7lbs 14oz and 20 inches long! He is perfect and we are very much in love with him.
